Eyes widened in wonder
Dear friend,
Two monks walked from the prayer room after the service towards the refectory. One monk asked his brother why he had been so quiet during the service and had not sung along. The monk broke his silence by saying: “I was listening to the singing of the birds.” The brother who was asking the questions said: “Yes, but we have to sing the hymn with all our heart, you cannot remain silent during the service!”. The silent monk chuckled and said: “Why, why do we have to sing, brother? Can you help me remember?”. “To come closer to God” said the questioning brother. “Exactly, and then?” asked the silent monk with an innocent mischief in his voice. “Hoping that we may find him!” the questioning monk added. The silent monk’s eyes widened in wonder, with a smile like a child’s, as he said, “If we cannot find God in the song of the bird, in that sonorous beauty, in that healing melody, where do you expect to meet God?”
“I was listening to the singing of the birds”
May your week be full of wonder, sven
